Lori Carrion, Chief Executive Officer

Lori Carrion, Chief Executive OfficerLori Carrion was appointed CEO of Western Grasslands, Inc. in 2012. Since 2006, she has been part of the management team that led Western Grasslands Inc. to prominence as a leading branded beef company and the leading U.S. producer and marketer of organic and natural grass fed beef.  

Prior to her appointment as CEO, she held the COO position. She was Vice President, Sales from 2006 to 2010. During her tenure, she has overseen sales, distribution, quality assurance and production departments at Western Grasslands, Inc. She has also worked closely with Western Grasslands Inc. ranchers, helping them navigate the USDA process to receive and maintain organic certification and meet Western Grassfed Beef’s standards for natural grass fed beef. 

Lori is a proponent of responsible rangeland management to preserve grasslands, watersheds and wildlife habitats in harmony with cattle grazing. She has a unique perspective on the economics of small scale, grass fed cattle ranching in the U.S. through her work with the family ranchers who raise Western Grassfed Beef. 

Lori is personally involved in California’s agriculture community as President of the 4-H Yolo County Junior Livestock Auction Committee. She is also a long-time participant and supporter of California Waterfowl Association, an award-winning nonprofit, hunter-supported conservation organization with a mission to conserve the state’s waterfowl, wetlands and hunting heritage. Lori recently began working with the United Way as a member of the local community review and allocations committee. 

Wayne Langston, Vice President, Production

Wayne manages the recruiting of ranchers for the Western Grassfed Beef program, secures contracts, and oversees rancher compliance with Western Grassfed Beef’s standards for 100 percent grass fed and grass finished cattle-raising protocols. Wayne also conducts trainings and seminars for meat department managers and store personnel. Wayne has been with Western Grassfed Beef since 2002.  

Wayne is a director of the Lassen County Cattlemen’s Association and serves on the board of directors for the Honey Lake Valley Resource Conservation District in Lassen County.  He was a past director of the California Shorthorn Association, manages a registered commercial cattle operation in Susanville, California, and has shown and judged cattle extensively throughout the U.S.

Becky Faudree, Director of Operations

Becky Faudree, Western Grassfed Beef Director of OperationsAs Director of Operations, Becky Faudree oversees day-to-day activities of Western Grassfed Beef, including team growth and development, strategic planning, processing, sales, and marketing. She brings an in-depth knowledge of the specialty meat industry to Western Grassfed Beef gained during her ten years of national and global meat program leadership with Whole Foods Market.  

Her positions at Whole Foods Market from 2006 to 2015 included Global Meat Coordinator, Global Purchasing Team Leader and Global Meat Buyer. From 2014 to 2015, she also co-directed the nonprofit animal welfare organization Global Animal Partnership (GAP) as its Director of Marketing and Business Development.

She holds an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix and a B.A. in Business Administration from California State University of Sacramento.

Janis Phillips, Processing & QA Manager

Janis Phillips, Processing & Distribution Manager

Janis plays an integral role in ensuring Western Grassfed Beef’s processors adhere to our rigorous safety protocols. She manages all details related to processing, food safety, and organic compliance. She also manages inventory and assists with various marketing programs, product distribution, product demonstrations, and customer service. Janis has been with Western Grassfed Beef since 2010.

Tamra Sanchez, Accounting Associate

Tamra Sanchez, Accounting Associate

Tamra Sanchez has more than 30 years' experience in accounting and financial management. She oversees accounts receivable/accounts payable, payroll, and financial reporting for Western Grassfed Beef. Previously, she managed a wide range of operations and financial functions for 23 years at Hewlett Packard Company/Agilent. Tamra is also an accomplished artist whose work is shown in several local art galleries.  She also participates in the annual juried event, Sonoma County Art Trails, opening her Bay Area studio to the public. Tamra has been with Western Grassfed Beef since 2008.

Kelly Rogers, Logistics Manager

Kelly handles the product distribution logistics and works closely with all carriers to ensure safe and efficient product delivery. She assists and provides support for various production, processing, merchandising, marketing and sales activities for Western Grassfed Beef. She holds a B.S. in Agricultural Business from California State University Chico. Kelly has been with Western Grassfed Beef since 2013.

Danielle Wood, Marketing & Communications Coordinator

Danielle works to maintain customer relationships and spread the word about Western Grassfed Beef through social media, email, and various other media outlets. She also maintains the WGB website, online store and sales as well as customer service. She has been with WGB for 3 years, working as a summer intern twice while studying Agriculture Business at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She started her current full-time position after graduating with her B.S. in June of 2016. She is also a member of the 7th generation of the Wood Cattle Ranch, one of Western Grassfed Beef's partnering family ranches.

 

Mack Graves, Senior Advisor & Board Member

Mack Graves, Senior Advisor
Mack has been involved in the food industry for more than 40 years. He was CEO of Western Grasslands, Inc. from 2006 until 2011 and is now a trusted advisor to the company. He speaks nationally and internationally on meat and poultry marketing issues, with an emphasis on establishing consumer-trusted brands. He is recognized as an expert in the natural and organic meat and poultry industries. 

Nurtured on his parent’s ranch, Mack’s agriculture experience progressed to senior levels at Armour Food Company and on to senior production and marketing positions at Perdue Farms, Inc., and general management positions at Clearwater Fine Foods, USA. 

Mack served as President and CEO of Coleman Natural Meats, Inc. during its transition from a family business to the largest natural beef company in the U.S. He also was interim CEO of Meyer Foods, producer of Meyer Natural Angus Beef. Mack has worked extensively with the United States Soybean Export Council throughout the world giving seminars and lectures on leadership, management and marketing helping individual beef, poultry, seafood and feed companies. 

Mack writes a monthly column called, “Marketing Trends” for the North American Meat Institute’s Lean Trimmings member newsletter as well as a biweekly blog, “Meat Your Markets” for Meatingplace.com.  Graves served on the Organic Trade Association’s Livestock Sub-Committee, which helped write the organic protocols for raising, processing and marketing organic meat and poultry and became part of the organic standards.  He also served on the Board of Directors of Humane Farm Animal Care that established industry standards for the humane treatment of farm animals.  He served in the US Army during the Vietnam era attaining the rank of Captain and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his service.  He holds both a B.S. and M.B.A. degrees. 

Darrell Wood, President, Rancher & Board Member

Darrell Wood

Darrell is a sixth-generation full-time rancher and owner of Leavitt Lake Ranches in Susanville and Vina, California, with his wife Callie, son Ramsey and daughter Dallice. In 2001 they began raising grass-fed cattle on their 40,000 acres of family-owned and leased rangelands in Northern California. As a founder of Western Grassfed Beef, Darrell created environmental stewardship protocols that are now practiced by many of Western Grassfed Beef’s family ranchers across the western United States. 

A national leader in rangeland preservation, Darrell currently serves as a board member for the Land Trust Alliance in Washington DC. He was a founding member, 14-year board member and past president of the California Rangeland Trust. He also served as former chairman, past president and is currently a board member of the Partnership of Rangeland Trusts. 

Darrell was honored for grassland stewardship by the Society for Range Management in 1999, received the 2010 California Beef Cattle Improvement Association’s Outstanding Seedstock and Commercial Producer of the Year Award, and won the 2009 National Environmental Stewardship Award from the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. 

He received one of three 2006 National Wetlands Conservation Awards from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Darrell also served as Vice President of the California Cattlemen’s Association and President of the Lassen County Cattleman’s Association.
